Student Accommodation
Living at the Studentenwerk Göttingen is diverse and as varied as the 35 dormitories are, are also the forms of housing. There are reasonably priced single rooms in hallway or housing communities, single and double flats as well as group and family flats.
From historic half-timbered houses in the city centre to dormitories of the 60s and 70s, to modern apartment complexes near the university, the Studentenwerk offers students around 4,700 dorm places (inexpensive rooms, flats, apartments).
We rely on the self-responsibility of the students: student self-governments are responsible for the internal affairs, but also for leisure activities in many dormitories.
You will study in Göttingen and have questions about housing of the Studentenwerk or would you like to inform yourself about our dormitories? Everything important and worth knowing we have put together here for you.
Accommodation of the Studentenwerk
You will receive personal advice and answers to your questions about housing by telephone, e-mail or on location in Göttingen through the team of the service office Studentisches Wohnen (Student Housing).
Individual questions about a specific dormitory are answered by the staff of the responsible service offices and dormitories. Contact options can be found on the relevant dorm page. The dorm pages can be accessed via our dorm overview.
Tips on applying
The demand for our dormitories is high, especially before the semester starts in the months of March and August/September. We, therefore, recommend you apply for a dorm room as soon as you consider Göttingen as a place of study. Flexibility in terms of rental start increases your chances of getting a dorm room. Admission or enrolment is not yet required for the online application for a dorm room!
Search on the private housing market
For your search on the private housing market, you should also plan enough lead time. Note: Landlords like to get to know students personally. Therefore, you should plan a stay in Göttingen for your room search. You can find further information about the room search on the private housing market here.
