Allowances

Allowances for disabled and/or chronically ill students

The University of Göttingen, Universitätsbund Göttingen (University Association Göttingen), the AStA of the University and the Studentenwerk Göttingen help needy disabled and/or chronically ill students to compensate for an increased need in the personal budget by granting allowances.
You want to apply for an allowance? Then come in our consultation, contact us by phone or use our contact form. We are happy to advise you!

Allowances for students with children

The Universitätsbund Göttingen and the Studentenwerk help needy students with children in special financial emergency situations. You can inform yourself about financial assistance at the social services.

Book allowance

Literature for the study is expensive, therefore, we offer you a financial allowance in the form of a book grant. It is intended as a compensation for the expenses of books purchased in the respective discipline. 50% of the invoice amount will be reimbursed, up to a maximum of 150.00 Euro.

Application period for a book grant for the bachelor's degree program are semesters 1 to 6 and for master's programs semesters 1 to 4. Accordingly, the proof of purchase must be dated. For study courses with the study goal State Examination/Diploma/Magister, the application period is from semester 1 to 10.

The application forms are available in the social services during opening hours.

You can find out more about the book allowance from the issuance guidelines (only in German, for further information please contact the social service directly).

The Book Fund is also supported by the Universitätsbund Göttingen e.V.

Allowance for technical equipment

Due to the pandemic, face-to-face teaching at Göttingen's universities is still largely suspended. Courses are currently held predominantly online. This requires special technical equipment, which is often very expensive. Therefore, the Social Service of the Studentenwerk will help with the purchase of technical equipment with an allowance for immediate use.

Students at Göttingen universities whose personal and social situation requires special support are eligible to apply.

The financial need is primarily proven via the application for interim financial aid (BMBF), provided that the use of the application data is permitted.

If the use of the application data from the interim financial aid is not permitted, or if an application for interim financial aid was submitted but not approved, or if no application for interim financial aid was submitted, the need in these exceptional cases will be verified on the basis of the specific individual personal circumstances of the applicant. For this purpose, the following must be submitted with the application:

  • Application justification
  • Copy of the bank statements for the last 3 months
  • Copy of identity card or passport or residence permit
  • Certificate of enrolment

Exceptional cases are decided by an allocation committee consisting of the staff of the Social Service of the Studentenwerk and representatives of the AStA Department of Social Affairs.

Would you like to apply for an allowance for technical equipment? Then contact the secretariat of the Studentenwerk (0551 - 39-35102, Sekretariat(at)studentenwerk-goettingen.de). Here you will receive the application in paper form and further information on the procedure.

Once you have submitted your application in full, a decision will be made as soon as possible.
